Han Ying Chan was born on May 21st 1912 in Toi Shan, Kwangtung, China. She was married to Bing Lam Chan, who was a well-known judge. Together, they had five children: three sons and two daughters. They had a very happy and loving family.
Han always traveled with her husband aboard for business. In 1949, Mrs. Chan and her husband were coming back home from Hong Kong when a big storm struck their ship. Almost all of the passengers were killed in the ship wreck, but Mrs. Chan managed to survive this disaster when a huge wave washed her ashore. As a caring, devoted wife, she searched desperately for her husband. She was unable to find him and was so heartbroken that she jumped back into the ocean. Luckily, she was saved again, this time by surviving sailors. Being a traditional Chinese wife, she went back home to raise her five children as a single mother and never remarried.
Han moved to Hong Kong with her two sons in 1954 in search of a better life. She settled there for 22 years before moving to Seattle in 1976. Since then, she lived a long, happy, and healthy life with her children and family.
Mrs. Han Ying Chan passed away peacefully on October 6th, 2011 at the age of 102. Before she left this world, she was with her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and other family members until her last breath.
We want to thank everyone for all of your support and taking the time today to join us in remembering her life. She will be forever loved and dearly missed. Thank you and God bless.
