Brother James Chu was born on September 28th, 1916 in Penang, Malaysia. His parents were from Toi Shen, Canton. He was educated in Catholic schools when he was young, and after high-school graduation at age 17, he went abroad to study at the University of Hong Kong. He later transferred to the Ling Nan University of China. He received a national award as China’s most promising young scientist. After obtaining his graduate degree from the Ling Nan University, he stayed on in their faculty and taught physics and mathematics.
At the end of WWII, he moved to HK and started an import and export business with friends. He married with Anna Chu in 1950. Anna grew up in a devout Christian home. Soon after, James was baptized into the Lord Jesus. James and Anna have three children, two daughters and one son. They all received a fine education in HK, and accepted the Lord as their personal Savior. The children came to Seattle respectively for their college education, and James and Anna also settled down in Seattle with their children in 1976. They joined the Seattle Chinese Alliance Church as members in 1984. Both started serving in the church as Sunday School teachers for the adults.
James had always been physically healthy until two years ago. Although he had much difficulty moving around, he continued to serve God in teaching Sunday School and serving in the Caleb Fellowship which he helped started twenty years ago. James would not miss any opportunities to fellowship with brothers and sisters in the church. He also served as a deacon in the church for one year in 1990.
James was very dedicated and loving towards his family. He loved his wife and children. He was a truly wonderful husband and father. He loved his Lord Jesus even more. He loved God’s words, and spent most of his time at home studying the Bible, and praying to God.
James’ health deteriorated rapidly in these past few months. He was hospitalized for one week and returned home a week ago. On May 7th, at 3:30am, James laid down his earthly burdens at the age of 94. He went to meet his Lord, full of God’s grace and mercy. James is survived by wife-Anna, children-Bonnie, James and Grace, Daughter-in-law-Grace, Son-in-law-John, and three granddaughters-Stephanie, Tiffanie and Rachel.
