Sorry to hear that Jim died. Sad news. I knew Jim and Katey in the Air Force during the 70s and 80's. He asked me to be a stand-in God Father at his daughter's baptism. He was a brilliant forward thinker and a fine officer. He possessed tremendous intellectual capabilities and put these to good use for our country during the Cold War. His singular accomplishments remain classified at the very highest security level. At Boeing, Jim was a good friend and mentor to me. I feel a deep sense of gratitude for the advice he gave me during my careers in the Air Force and at Boeing. Rest in Peace, awesome Colonel and Engineer.

Prior to the pleasure of working with Jim on B-1B and F-22, I encountered Jim in multiple Computer Science classes at the UW. Jim stood out in those classes, and not just because he was tall. Jim was at least twenty years older than most of us, attended our classes in Air Force dress uniform, and was known to all as simply "The Colonel". Jim was a unique and welcome presence, as a student, and many years later walking the picket lines with his dogs during the Boeing Engineers strike.

I lost contact with Jim when I left the B-1B program in June 1990. We used to have interesting conversations about politics. I was glad to get reconnected to him a couple of months ago, when I and three other B-1B-ers visited him in his home.
