John Ellery (Larry) Markle was born on October 29, 1937 and passed away on May 14, 2020 after a brief illness at Swedish Hospital in Issaquah, Washington.
A resident of Mercer Island since 2015, he relocated from Cave Creek, Arizona, and previously was a 37 year resident of Los Angeles.
He is survived by his wife of almost 49 years Sylvia, four nieces and five nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Wendy and brother Gerald.
Larry had a 36 year career with the Los Angeles Unified School District, first as a mathematics teacher and then as a secondary school administrator. His love for hockey was inspired by his father, a professional Canadian hockey player and coach, who began teaching Larry at age 4. Larry continued to skate into his 50’s with an amateur team and for pleasure even in his 80’s. He received his BS from State University of New York at Oswego and MS at the University of Southern California.
