John was born July 26, 1935 in San Jose CA, to parents Helen and John Warner Sr. Later, after growing up in Portland Oregon, John became a member of Phi Kappa Psi fraternity and received a business degree from Oregon State University, in 1957. Upon graduation he became a 2nd Lt. Captain and then Captain in the US Air Force. While enlisted he met a nurse, Lt. Eleanor Center, who became his wife of 63 years. Together they raised a daughter, Robin, and sons, John and Michael.
After serving in the Air Force, John had a successful business career which took the family from upstate New York to Oregon and Indiana before settling in Bellevue WA. He became owner of Arrowsmith Insurance Adjusters, which he proudly ran until retiring just last year. He liked to help people, and was there for many, whatever the need was.
He loved the Pacific NorthWest, had a passion for boating, and was an avid fisherman. He also loved teaching others about boating, and once had a weekly spot as Captain Seaworthy, on a local radio show. His patriotism, care for community and love of boating led him to serve in the US Coast Guard Auxiliary for the past 40 years. He was a much respected and dedicated member and Commander of Flotilla 22.
Anyone who met John knows he was very sociable and loved to chat. Often starting a conversation with: “So, how ‘s life in your corner of the rainforest?” He was always curious and interested in people, places, and how things worked.
He was dedicated to his extended family, and loved being with them. He is known by all for his special waffles, which he perfected over the years, and loved to fix for a lucky crowd. He will be forever missed, and dearly loved by his wife, Eleanor (Lee), children, Robin, John, and Mike, their spouses and 5 grandchildren +1 great grandchild. As well as sisters, Maryellen and Donna, and their families.
