Judith Judy S. Skytta Alder

June 25, 1938January 14, 2012

This lovely lady was born June 25, 1938 in South Haven, MI and died January 14, 2012 in Bellevue, WA at the age of 73.

Her kind, gracious, and happy manner endeared her to all that knew her. Judy moved to Seattle with her parents Ernest M. Skytta and Helen O. Skytta during grade school, attending Queen Anne High School, graduating in 1955. She attended the University of Washington where she was a member of the Alpha Delta Pi Sorority and graduated in 1959 with a BA degree in Sociology. Judy worked as a paralegal for some of the most prestigious law firms in Seattle, including the Schweppe, Lane Powell and Bogle and Gates law firms. Judy was always very proud of her father who was born of Finnish immigrant parents. He worked his way through college with master degrees in chemistry and physics from the University of Michigan during the Great Depression and later became the Vice President and West Coast Manager for a major chemical company, Reichold Chemicals. She was equally proud of her mother who, along with her father, received her undergraduate degree at Western Michigan University. Her mother was an excellent seamstress, homemaker, and loving mother. Judy was preceded in death by her parents.

Judy married Wallace (Wally) Alder on March 19, 1960. They have two daughters, Kathleen who is married to Wallace “Rusty” Williams with granddaughter Erin & grandson Kurtis; and Linda who is married to Patrick Carney with granddaughter Melissa & grandson Sean.

Judy was an extremely intelligent and talented lady and a prolific reader. She enjoyed tap and ballet performance in her youth and ballroom dancing with Wally. She was also an excellent seamstress and loved making clothing and home décor items for her family. She could knit a sweater without missing a stitch while reading the latest biography or novel. She also was quite talented at painting in various mediums. She provided great support to Wally in his business career at Boeing and his work with numerous community organizations.

Judy has passed on her intelligence and work ethic to her daughters and has been an inspiration to her grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at Newport Presbyterian Church in South Bellevue on Sunday, January 29th at 2:00 p.m. at 4010 120th Ave. S.E., Bellevue, WA 98015. A church reception will follow the service. Private interment services will be held at Sunset Hills Memorial Park, 1215 145th Pl. S.E., Bellevue, WA 98007.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances can be made to Newport Presbyterian Church, The American Lung Association, or Evergreen Hospice Care Center at 12822 124th Lane N.E., Kirkland, WA 98034.

Arrangements under the direction of Sunset Hills Funeral Home, Bellevue, WA.

So sorry I didn't make it to Judy's service. I wanted to be there to express my sympathy in person. My day was just too full and it was a long drive out there. I just couldn't squeeze in one more thing. Judy and I were in the same pledge class at ADPi. Hadn't seen her in many years but she was always one of my favorite sisters. May you find comfort in knowning she will never be forgotten. May God bless you in your sorrow and in all your days. Cherie Austin Dutton

Kathy, Linda and Betty, you did a wonderful job of helping us remember many wonderful details about Judy at the services. The photo gallery was a pure delight...showed how darling Judy was as a little girl and what a beautiful woman, wife and mother she became. Wally, you selected just the right songs to accompany the photo gallery. Very touching and a loving remembrance. Love to all of you and another hug.

Wally, Kathy, Linda and family,

We offer our sincere condolence and deepest sympathy. May the outpouring of sympathy, the kind acts of friends and strangers and the comfort in knowing that your loss is felt by many, help you through this difficult time.

I felt honored to help with your family's pictures and was truly touched by the wonderful love story that Wally and Judy shared. Their love story was indeed a blessing!

I ask for God's blessings on you and your wonderful family. May you find the courage and strength to move forward in peace and confidence and in knowing that Judy is now with our Lord and that you are all in our thoughts and prayers.

I remember the many moments of laughter we all had with Judy in the ADPi house. These memories are just the spirit of life in a wonderful sorority. Judy, very likely remembered them too. I hope they brought her comfort.
