Her kind, gracious, and happy manner endeared her to all that knew her. Judy moved to Seattle with her parents Ernest M. Skytta and Helen O. Skytta during grade school, attending Queen Anne High School, graduating in 1955. She attended the University of Washington where she was a member of the Alpha Delta Pi Sorority and graduated in 1959 with a BA degree in Sociology. Judy worked as a paralegal for some of the most prestigious law firms in Seattle, including the Schweppe, Lane Powell and Bogle and Gates law firms. Judy was always very proud of her father who was born of Finnish immigrant parents. He worked his way through college with master degrees in chemistry and physics from the University of Michigan during the Great Depression and later became the Vice President and West Coast Manager for a major chemical company, Reichold Chemicals. She was equally proud of her mother who, along with her father, received her undergraduate degree at Western Michigan University. Her mother was an excellent seamstress, homemaker, and loving mother. Judy was preceded in death by her parents.
Judy married Wallace (Wally) Alder on March 19, 1960. They have two daughters, Kathleen who is married to Wallace “Rusty” Williams with granddaughter Erin & grandson Kurtis; and Linda who is married to Patrick Carney with granddaughter Melissa & grandson Sean.
Judy was an extremely intelligent and talented lady and a prolific reader. She enjoyed tap and ballet performance in her youth and ballroom dancing with Wally. She was also an excellent seamstress and loved making clothing and home décor items for her family. She could knit a sweater without missing a stitch while reading the latest biography or novel. She also was quite talented at painting in various mediums. She provided great support to Wally in his business career at Boeing and his work with numerous community organizations.
Judy has passed on her intelligence and work ethic to her daughters and has been an inspiration to her grandchildren.
