Judith Anne Kornell

Judy was born in Portland, Oregon and grew up visiting the Oregon coast with her parents, two brothers, and sister. Judy attended nursing school and got her Masters in Nursing, specializing in oncology. She spent a lifetime caring for others in their most difficult moments. She also led ground-breaking research in pain control at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. Judy was also a founding member of the Puget Sound Oncology Nursing Society and helped start Hospice of Seattle. In addition to her work as a nurse, Judy volunteered with the Catholic Community Services and with domestic violence victims. Judy was the mother of five children, grandmother of fourteen, and great grandmother of nine. She is survived by her brothers Phil Metschan and John Metschan, and sister Martha Burns, as well as her longtime companion Marv Wallace. In her free time, Judy loved to garden and travel, especially to the Oregon coast where she continued to take her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She loved her family, her wide circle of friends, and we can’t express the depth of our sorrow at her passing.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at Saint Madeleine Sophie Catholic Church in Bellevue. She will be laid to rest at 1:00 pm Monday, June 25, 2018 at Mt. In the fall of 1943 Judy and I met in the 1st grade class at the Madeleine Catholic school in Portland, Oregon. That was the beginning of a lifelong friendship. After graduation we continued our education at St. Mary 's Academy where we shared many good times together. Judy had a beautiful smile, a warm
personality & she really enjoyed life. After my husband and I moved to So. California in 1972 I didn't get to see Judy very often but we always kept in touch by phone. Our last in-person visit was in Dec. of 2016 when I was in Seattle to visit my brother; I'm so glad I got to see her then.
I was blessed to have Judy as my friend and I will really miss her. May she rest in peace.

Love to all of Judy's family. I will keep you all in my prayers at this difficult time.
