Ka Hung was born in Guangdong, then part of the Republic of China. He grew up influenced by his father, Lau Yee Tak 劉貽德, whose medical practice inspired in him a lifelong respect for learning and service. A proud alumnus of Pui Ching Middle School 培正中學 and Hsiang-Ya Medical College 湘雅醫學院, he excelled academically and was an accomplished track athlete.
In 1959, he emigrated to the United States in pursuit of opportunity and education, completing his undergraduate studies at Brigham Young University and earning his Doctorate of Podiatric Medicine from the California College of Podiatric Medicine. Building a thriving private practice spanning over 30 years, he became a respected physician, mentor, and friend to many. He was recognized as a Fellow and Diplomate by the American Board of Podiatric Medicine and was invited to share his expertise through lectures at medical schools in China. His professional dedication and mentorship inspired his elder son, Kim, to follow in his footsteps as a podiatrist and his younger son, David, to pursue a career in the interactive entertainment industry, reflecting his unwavering belief in hard work, perseverance, and lifelong learning.
A social butterfly with a warm smile and a tender heart, Ka Hung loved mentoring younger generations and sharing stories of his youth that were often filled with humor, adventure, and wisdom. During his retirement years, he was happiest tending his garden, chatting with neighbors, or enjoying his favorite snacks outdoors. His kindness, warmth, and cheerful personality made him a cherished presence in his community. We extend heartfelt thanks to his friends and neighbors, who filled his later years with joy and companionship.
Ka Hung is reunited with his wife and is survived by his elder son, Kim K. Lau 劉港欣; grandson, Jonathan Brandon Lau 劉俊傑; younger son, David K. Lau 劉啟欣, and his wife, Xiahua Wei 韋夏華; sister-in-law Harriet Fong 伍玉華; and his brothers, Ka Hon Lau 劉家漢 and Ka Ling Lau 劉家陵. We also express deep gratitude to Pun Pun Lee 李尚賓; Joanne Wong 李彩嫻; Debbie and Leyton Alexander, Dr. Clifford and Cecilia Cheng; Dr. Chris Smith; Kitty Chau ; nephew, John Lau 劉子文, and his wife, Queenie Ngai 倪文慧; niece, Janet Lau 劉佩蒽; Jason Weng 翁蘇楠, his mother, Xiaoning Li 李小寧, and his grandparents, Juncheng Li 李俊成 and Dezhao Jiang 蔣德昭; as well as Hanbang Huang 黃漢邦, Pinzhong Ou 區品中, and other friends from Pui Ching Middle School and Hsiang-Ya Medical College, for their care and loving support.
With love, kindness, generosity, and diligence, Ka Hung touched the lives of everyone around him and left an enduring impact on family, friends, and colleagues. A proud supporter of education, he lived a happy, simple, and practical life—embracing the American Dream.
