Kathy was born in Bellingham, Washington to John and Jean Bennerstrom. She attended grade school at the Western Washington Teachers College "Campus School" and graduated from Bellingham High School, class of 1959. Kathy graduated from the University of Washington with a degree in education and then taught second grade in the Bellevue School District for four years.
Kathy was a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority and on a sorority/fraternity exchange. She met Paul (Ted) Vander Hoek and after three years of courtship, they were married in June of 1963. Together they spent over sixty years together living in Bellevue and Chelan, Washington and Anthem, Arizona having great memories of family and friends throughout those years.
Kathy is survived by her husband Ted; sons Bryan (Rachel); Jason (April); sister Karen Price (Dick); and grandchildren Zachary, Astrid, Cole (Victoria), Arie, and Zoë, all of whom she loved very much. Kathy's warm smile, compassionate heart, and gentle demeanor will forever be remembered by her family and many friends.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at Sunset Hills Memorial Park and Funeral Home, 1215 145th Place SE, Bellevue, WA at 1:30 on Monday, April 15, 2024.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests donations be made to the Children's Orthopedic Hospital, Seattle, WA.
