Lang Chau

Our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Lang Chau was born in Ben-Tre Viet Nam, the second child in the family with one older brother, two younger brothers and three younger sisters. She was raised by Nhi Chau and So Vuong in South Vietnam. She married Xu Do in 1952, who passed away in March 2012; they had married for sixty years.

After her marriage, she went to live with her husband's family in My-Tho city, where they raised their two sons, Phu and Sonny. Lang also helped to raise her husband's two nephews and a niece, and brought them to America (They are Phúc, Liên and Cường). She wasn't a stay-home wife/mom, she had been working outside her home to help her husband's family by selling street food such as chicken porridge, fishes porridge and sweet desserts call “che”.

Four years after the Viet Nam War ended, Lang and her family escaped the country by boat to Indonesia. They had been transferred from one refugee camp to another. Lang’s family was among the early group of “Boat People '' who ran away from Viet Nam searching for a better future. Finally in November 1980, Lang‘s family immigrated to the United States, settling in Seattle WA. She quickly adapted to the new Western culture, learned the new language, and accepted the job at Redmond Care and Rehabilitation Center with proudly ten years-service there. After she retired, she helped take care of grandchildren. She lived far away from her homeland, made many trips back hometown, just for visiting, and never had a dream moving back to her hometown. Nevertheless, she had a joyful life together with her family in America.

Lang loved traditional Vietnamese cultures, traveling, cooking, baking Vietnamese honeycomb cake and moon-cake, gardening and chatting.
