

Lucille Charlotte Moreland, 97, passed peacefully at home in Snohomish, Washington on August 7, 2016 with her daughter Dee Anne, and son-in-law Robert at her side. She was born January 28, 1919 in Cusick, Washington, to loving parents Louis and Anna Porta.
Lucille’s early years were in Eastern Washington where she attended grammar school, high school and then on to Eastern Washington College where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in education. Her calling was to be a teacher. Later Lucille went on to achieve a Masters in Education. Lucille’s earliest teaching assignments were in Eastern Washington, and then in Providence Rhode Island while her husband was assigned by the Navy during WWII.
Lucille met her husband to be (Rodney Patrick Moreland) while attending Eastern Washington. Lucille and Rodney were married in 1940 after graduating from college. Both received degrees in Education. After WWII Lucille and Rod moved back to Washington State and settled in Olympia, WA where they both began new teaching careers.
After teaching for several years Lucille and Rod purchased the Holly Motel in Olympia which they owned/operated and expanded over the course of several years.
Lucille and Rod began their family with the birth of their son Rodney Patrick Jr. and three years later their daughter Dee Anne.
Lucille and Rod were long time parishioners of St. Michaels Catholic Church in Olympia, WA. For the last 12 years Lucille lived with her daughter and son-in-law in Snohomish, WA, and was a parishioner of Holy Family Catholic Church in Kirkland, WA. Lucille was also a member of Dana Egbert Children’s Orthopedic Guild for many years.
Lucille was an avid golfer. She was a charter member of the Olympia Country Club; was an active member, going on to become a Team Captain of the Olympia Country Club women’s golf league. Later in life she enjoyed golfing with friends including golf trips to Hawaii.
Lucille was a very special person and a true representative of America’s Greatest Generation. She was very gracious and greatly enjoyed many activities with friends and relatives to include entertaining friends at home and of course many activities involving golf.
Lucille is preceded in death by her husband Rod Moreland Sr. and her son Rod Moreland Jr. Lucille is also survived by her sister Delia Teeple of Richland, WA and nieces and nephews and numerous grand and great grand nieces and nephews.
Funeral Mass is scheduled for 11:00 am, Monday, August 22, at Holy Family Catholic Church, 7045 120th Ave NE, Kirkland, Washington 98033. The Graveside Service will be 11:00 am, Wednesday, August 24, 2016, at Calvary Cemetery, 3850 Cleveland Ave, Tumwater, WA 98501.
