Mark Oliver Pass passed away peacefully at Evergreen Hospice Center in Kirkland, WA on November 22, 2020 after a long battle with kidney disease. He was 78 years old.
He was a beloved husband, father and grandfather. In his final days, Mark was surrounded with love from his family and friends.
Mark was born on October 26, 1942 in Seattle, WA to Harry and Helen Pass. He lived on Capitol Hill until sixth grade, then moved to Lakewood Avenue in Mount Baker. He graduated from Franklin High School, where he played football and threw shot put, and from the University of Arizona, with a degree in economics. Mark soaked up the sun and made lasting friendships.
Mark worked for the family-run Baby Diaper Service before being called into the military. He served in the Air Force Reserves from 1965-1968, then served as an Airman First Class based at Travis Air Force Base, and in the Vietnam War from 1968-1972.
Mark enjoyed a 40-year career in commercial real estate, which included co-founding SeaPac Realty with his lifelong friend and golf buddy, Jack Chesbro, and serving as Vice President of Real Estate for Skippers, Inc. and Key Bank.
In 1991, he married the love of his life, Greta. Mark and Greta enjoyed 30 wonderful years of marriage, friendship, love and memories. Mark raised her son Aaron from age 5 and two beautiful daughters, Lauren and Erin, from his first marriage (Barbara Hershberg).
Mark coached soccer for all three of his children, and was an avid skier, golfer, fisherman, and boater. For many years he led white water kayaking trips with friends and family on rivers throughout the Pacific Northwest. He had a great sense of adventure and enjoyed planning trips, reading maps, and learning the background of the places he traveled.
He was deeply interested in politics, world events and history. Mark was a kind and thoughtful person with a witty sense of humor. He told great jokes around the campfire and his distinct laugh would echo through the camp.
He loved traveling with Greta, including to Europe, Mexico, and much of the United States. Nearly every year for more than 30 years, they visited their favorite place, the Big Island of Hawaii, which will forever be their special place.
Mark is preceeded in death by his parents and is survived by his wife Greta Pass; brother Jim (Susan) Pass; daughters Lauren (Dave) Ahten and Erin Pass; stepson Aaron (Devon) Pass; and grandchildren Chloe, Maxx and Evelyn.
