Mike passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, August 29, 2020 at the age of 71 after a two-year battle with cancer. Just like he dealt with all experiences in life, he managed his illness with strength and grace and on his final day, he was surrounded by his two daughters and wife of 38 years.
Mike was born on May 9, 1949 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He was born the third of four children to Kenneth and Alice Parker. Mike graduated from Portsmouth High School in Portsmouth, Ohio, then went on to earn his Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology from San Diego State University and his Ph.D. in Microbiology from UCLA.
Mike was happily married to Marilyn who was his partner in life for 38 years. He was a devoted father to his two beautiful daughters, who were the most important part of his life.
Mike was an avid boater, enjoying both sail and power boats. He and Marilyn enjoyed many years boating throughout the San Juan Islands and the Gulf Islands in British Columbia. He had a love of food and was a master cook in the kitchen. He enjoyed traveling and spent time touring throughout France, Spain, and Italy and relaxing in Mexico.
Mike is survived by his wife Marilyn Parker; two daughters, Megan Parker and Kim Brooks-Lindquist; son-in-law David Lindquist; his grandson Luke Brooks; and his sister Cheryl Tindall.
He will be deeply missed by his friends, family and all who knew him.
