Mona graduated from Classen High School in Oklahoma City in 1942. She worked for Decca Records during the war years, and was later an office manager for Campbell’s Soup Company until her retirement in 1995. Mona was the beloved wife of Harrell P. Kirby (d. 1994) for 50 years. She later married Earl Howells (d. 2015). Mona is survived by her son, James M. Kirby and a daughter, Virginia Kay (Kirby) Klein. She leaves 3 grandchildren, Tessa Holmes, Mason Klein and Madeline Klein as well as 4 great-grand children ; Mona Marrs, Arlo Marrs, Freija Holmes and Endymia Shafee-Klein. Mona was an avid knitter, making hundreds of hats for the homeless. She loved gathering with those she loved, sharing food and talking. She was a deacon in her church and the President of Epsilon Sigma Alpha Service Sorority. In 2009 Mona was awarded the Distinguished Center of Influence Award by the U.S. Army, 181st Brigade, for her support of troops in Iraq. The family invites donations in Mona’s name to the Union Gospel Mission in Seattle. Friends and family members may attend the graveside service officiated by Pastor J.C. Mitchell, on Monday, July 23 from 10:30 to 12:00 at Sunset Hills Memorial Park, Bellevue, WA.
