Nettie Ruby Wall

Nettie R. Wall was born April 29, 1931 in Beechy, SK, Canada, to Aron H. Nickel and Sara (Peters) Nickel. She was the second of five children. She completed 12 years of education in 10 years, at schools in Beechy, SK, Yarrow, BC, and Saskatoon, SK. She obtained her high school diploma at Saskatoon Technical Institute, worked as a Nanny, then as a Machine Embroiderer at Crest Craft in Saskatoon, SK.

In 1950, she married Marlyn Wall in Saskatoon, SK and they shared over 75 years together as husband and wife. They lived in Hamilton, ON from 1952 to 1961. Nettie studied bookkeeping, worked at Zeller's Department Store in the credit office, and in the purchasing department at Westinghouse Canada until 1957. Two daughters were brought into the family: Dianne in 1957 and Lynda in 1959.

In 1961, the family of four emigrated to the U.S. Nettie graduated in 1976 with a Associates in Science in Nursing from Bellevue Community College, and worked as a Registered Nurse at Life Care Center in Kirkland, WA and at Group Health Cooperative in Seattle, WA until 1994.

Nettie volunteered her time with Children's Sunday School, Pioneer Girls, Ben Franklin Elementary School, SOWERS, Action International, and Westminster Chapel Helping Hands. She was an expert seamstress and quilter, making clothing and quilts for family, friends, new babies, and the homeless.

From 1988 to 1995, six grandchildren joined the family. Nettie shared her love with each one, and welcomed their spouses and partners when they joined the family. She enjoyed hosting family and friends at their home in Kirkland and in their travels when they were on the road. Nettie and Marlyn enjoyed travel, and in retirement they took many trips, often including family or friends. They frequently traveled to help their daughters and families at their homes.

Nettie's faith meant a great deal to her. Her approach to life and Christianity positively influenced countless people. In the years she lived in the U.S., she was a member of Shoreline Mennonite Brethren Church, and then Westminster Chapel in Bellevue, WA.

She is survived by her beloved sisters, Anne Gossen and Frieda Makaroff, daughters Dianne (Carl Gillikin) Wall-Gillikin and Lynda Wall, and grandchildren Caitlyn Gillikin (Kristen Linck), Jay (Angie) Gillikin, Jesse Martin (Hyerim Cho), Kevin Gillikin, Ben Gillikin, and Wren Martin. Also surviving are family members Albert Wall, Corny and Vi Wall, Leslie and Julie Wall, Len and Selma Janzen, Lewis and Ruby Wall, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Nettie was predeceased by her husband Marlyn Wall, and by family members Jake and Yvonne Nickel, Olga and Jake Jantz, Harvey Gossen, Stuart Makaroff, Sarah Wall, Jacob and Grace Wall, Erma and Johnny Koluk, Mary Wall, Clarence and Verna Wall, and Ron Wall.

The memorial service will be held at Westminster Chapel, 13646 NE 24th St., Bellevue, WA, in the Fireside Room, on Tuesday, September 29 at 2 PM. Friends and relatives who cannot attend are invited to contact Nettie's family for information on how to view a recording of the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Helping Hands Ministry of Westminster Chapel, in memory of Nettie R. Wall.
