peacefully with his family by his side.
It is difficult to express the fine person he was. His patience, calmness,
acceptance, generosity, curiosity, kindness, love, compassion, humor and brilliance
shaped all those who knew him. If you ever thought any of us to have a good quality
about us, chances are we were trying to be like him. Service was not something he
did, it was who he was. He loved people and was a wonderful example of building
bridges with those he met. He was a great example of showing support to his
children, Ron, Erik, Gwen, Tina and Dan, but especially his wife Helen Thompsen. He
also loved and supported each of his 3 daughter in laws, 2 son in laws, 14
grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild and 3 granddogs who loved him just as much as
he loved them.
In his retirement, his love for driving and people, brought him to working for
Metro driving buses. If you had the privilege of riding on his bus you may have
noticed his friendly disposition or perhaps you were a recipient of his genuine
curiosity or thoughtful concern about your life. He made it a point to connect with
others. It was great to make him laugh as much as he made us laugh. We will truly
miss our weekly phone calls and long conversations with him.
Although dad would disagree, he exemplified Christ’s new commandment to love one
another and he treated everyone as children of God.
God be with you ‘til we meet again.
