Violet “Chickie” DiPietro, a lifelong Seattle and Bellevue area resident, passed away on August 11, 2026, at the age of 91. She was born May 24, 1935, in the Riverton neighborhood of Seattle, Washington. She was the youngest of seven children to Pasquale Scoccolo and Gemma D’Alessandro who immigrated to the United States from the small town of Tufara, Italy. Chickie was raised on the family farm in South Seattle, and her Italian heritage remained a meaningful and enduring part of her life.
Chickie attended Foster High School, where she excelled both academically and socially. She was honored as “Foster High School Girl of the Year” for four consecutive years and graduated in 1953.
On September 27, 1958, Chickie married the love of her life, Art DiPietro. They shared over 53 years together before Art passed away in 2012. As partners in life and business, Chickie and Art successfully built and operated DiPietro Trucking until 2010. Throughout the years they created a rich and rewarding life, filled with hard work, a deep sense of family, and lasting friendships.
Chickie proudly served as the Washington State Representative for the March of Dimes Foundation, was the National Recording Secretary for the “Son’s and Daughter’s of Italy”, and later served as Director of Events at Glendale Country Club.
Golf was one of Chickie’s greatest passions. She and Art were members of Glendale Country Club in Bellevue, and Bighorn Golf Club in Palm Desert, California, where they owned a home for 29 years. Their mutual passion for the game took them to many beautiful courses around the world.
True to her Italian roots, family was at the heart of Chickie’s life. She took great pleasure in preparing meals and treats for family and friends, and her pies were legendary. Just as cherished were her generosity and guidance, especially by her many nieces and nephews, to whom she was like a second mother.
Chickie will be remembered for her class and dignity, the friendships she cherished, the life she built with her husband, and the many people whose lives she touched along the way. She will be deeply missed.
Chickie was preceded in death by her husband Art DiPietro, and by her siblings Anthony “Tony” Scoccolo Sr., Eda Mastandrea, John Scoccolo, Jeana Mola, and Mary “Babe” Tedesco. She is survived by her brother Armondo “Mondo” Scoccolo, age 94, Sister-in-law Mafalda Scoccolo, and Sister-in-law Diana DiPietro, as well as many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews, godchildren, and life-long friends.
A celebration of Chickie’s life will be held September 2, 2026, at St. Madeline Sophie Catholic Parish, 4400 130th Place SE, Bellevue, WA at 11:00 AM, followed by a reception at Glendale Country Club in Bellevue, WA at 2:00 PM.
