Wallace Lee Bornong
Wally Bornong was born Wallace Lee Bornong, December 16, 1940 in
Mobridge, SD. In 1941 the Bornong family moved to Kirkland, WA.
He attended school in Kirkland. He was a good student and was very
good at sports, especially baseball. He once pitched a no hitter game
for the Kirkland “Tigers” little league. In later years Wally became a huge Mariners and
Huskies fan.
His first job was at Kingens Drive Inn in Bellevue as a cook. He loved to cook and tried to
duplicate cooking the delicious Kingen burgers at home. In 1958 he joined the Navy. He was
a radarman on the minesweeper ships USS Plunk and USS Harveston. He traveled to Alaska,
Japan, and Hawaii. After the Navy Wally sold real estate in the Seattle area for Mutual Realty.
In 1963 he was awarded salesman of the year by Mutual Realty. Wally attended Bellevue
Community College and had an interest in psychology. Wally loved music. Especially jazz.
Dave Brubeck and Ramsey Lewis Trio were his favorites. He was an assistant disc jockey at
Bellevue Community College.
Wally liked cool cars and semi-trucks. His brother in law taught him to drive and get his CDL.
He drove for Watson Paving, Harms Petroleum, and Fiorito Brothers. He retired in 2004 from
HOS.
He had a special connection with animals, especially dogs. He usually owned two at a time and
showered them with love.
Wally loved the Lord. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. He spent many hours
learning his Bible and listening to great Bible teachers. He respected the teachings of Dr.
Walter Martin, Hugh Ross, and Josh McDowell to name a few.
He loved his mother “Myrtle”. He would get a tear in his eye when he reminisced about her
home made turkey dinners and award winning potato salad. He cared for her in her home the
last years of her life. Wally said “those were the best years of my life.”
Wally was preceded in passing by his dad, Clarence Bornong and his mom, Myrtle Burke
Bornong. He is survived by his aunts, Pearl Burke Brown and Fern Burke Olson, his sister,
Peggy Bornong Jackson, and his brother in law, Dick Jackson.
