The eldest daughter of Nguyễn Văn Bách and Vũ Thị Hoàng, she was born on March 1, 1942 in Hà Nội, Việt Nam. At the age of 18, she married Nguyễn Dương on June 27, 1960 in Nha Trang, after the couple and their extended families migrated to the south, fleeing the communist North Viet Nam.
She was preceded in death by her eldest brother Tùng (Françoise). She is survived by her husband Dương; her younger sisters Quỳnh, Oanh, Điệp (Triển), Thu (Thái), and Hương (Cường); her younger brothers Hiệp (Thu-Thu), Thông (Gaby), Trúc (Nguyệt), and Mai (Tâm); her five children: Loan (Nhuận), Tuấn (Châu), Thảo (Sơn), Tâm (Khanh), and Kiệt (Seon Mee); sixteen grandchildren: Minh, Aaron (Riley), Lukas, Emma, Lan (Michael), Anh-Thư (Denis), Phi, An (Antony), Đức (Michelle), Kim, Ánh, Grace, Jonathan, Timothy, Kody, and Maia; four great-grandsons: Stephen, Vincent, Sky, and Sora; and great-granddaughter: Eve.
