Together with her late husband, Gustavo Torres Avila, she built a life rooted in faith, family, and love.
Adelina met Gustavo while attending Long Beach City College through the International Students Club. Their courtship was filled with joyful adventures, and they were later married on February 6, 1965 in Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico in the same church where 40 years later they would renew their vows.
In her younger years, Adelina worked at Disneyland, where she was assigned as a Ride Operator for the Matterhorn. It was there that she met her Hollywood crush, Paul Newman; a memory she treasured so deeply that, even in her later years, her face would light up like a teenager whenever she told the story. She would eventually transition into a teaching career at MacArthur Elementary School in the City of Lakewood, which affectionately became her second home until retirement.
Adelina was deeply proud of her Mexican roots and Chinese heritage, which shaped her values, her traditions, and the way she shared her love with others. She was cherished by family and friends for her beautifully crafted cakes and whimsical candy trains, sharing her creativity and warmth generously throughout her life.
She embraced many passions, which included reading, baking, painting, stained glass, and gardening - but her greatest devotion was always to her family. With steadfast love, she raised three children and later found great happiness in caring for her three granddaughters.
She is survived by her children, Lila Gabriela Avila, Gustavo Armando Avila, and Javier Tonatiuh Avila; and by her beloved granddaughters, Alexandria Marie Avila, Samantha Ann Avila, and Andi Alyssa Avila.
Adelina’s legacy of faith, artistry, and love will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
