William Bell Barnes was born in Buffalo, New York on March 31, 1918 and passed away at home peacefully on August 3, 2012. He came to California at a young age with his family and settled in Sebastopol. There he met Florence Quartaroli his future wife. They were married in November 1940. He served in the Army during
World War II and was trained to be part of the invasion force into Japan, but instead became part of the occupation force. He returned from the war and settled in Lakewood, California raising his family. He worked for 42 years for McDonnell Douglas (now Boeing) as an airplane mechanic. He was always there for his children and was always looked to as an experienced handyman and he could repair almost anything. He is survived by his bride of 71 years, Florence and his five children, Madalyn (Dennis) Ernie (Margaret) Bill, Dennis (Kathy) and Carolyn
(Doug) as well as 12 grandchildren and 12 great- grandchildren. Bill was predeceased by his parents, brothers Paul and Talton and daughter-in-law Karen.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 8, 2012 at 10 a.m. at Whites Funeral Home 9903 E. Flower St. Bellflower, Ca. Interment at All Souls Cemetery immediately following the service In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the American Cancer Society www.cancer.org.
