Mrs. Willie B Nicholson Funches

Willie Bee Funches was born on February 6, 1935 to Jesse and Lucille Nicholson; after her father’s death her mother married Woodrow Thomas who reared her until she met and married her husband Mr. George Funches, to that reunion nine children was born.

The sun rose on a life that would be filled with love, adventure, faith, hard work, and friendship. Willie as she was so lovingly called, attended New Oak Ridge Missionary Baptist Church in Learned, Mississippi where she accepted Christ at an early age.

In April 1959, the family moved to Los Angeles, CA and united with the Cross of Christ Missionary Baptist Church.

On Thursday, September 30, 2010, the gentle soul of Willie Bee Funches went home to be with the Lord.

Willie Bee was preceded in death by her husband, George Funches, her parents, Jessie, Lucille & Woodrow; one son Victor; two grandchildren Javelle & Artrevia; two brother-in-laws Robert & Leroy; four sister-in-laws Hydinia, Katherine, Verlean, and Clara and one son-in-law O.B. Washington.

She leaves to cherish her memory, three sons Allen Nicholson (Kendra) of Walnut, CA, Woodrow Nicholson of Long Beach, CA, George JR of Colton, CA,; five daughters Jonnie Josie Johnson (Huertha),of Los Angeles, CA, Janice Funches of Compton, CA,, Marilyn Lewis (Ernest) of South Dakota, Donna Smith (Mark) of Fontana, CA, Clarice Funches (Brian) of Lakewood, CA and Cynthia Gibson-Poochie of Dallas, TX; one aunt Viola of Los Angeles, CA; one sister Beatrice Collins of Vicksburg, MS, three sister-in-laws, Addella Wall, Burtee Hunt (Eddie Lee) of Los Angeles, Patricia Wright (Charles) of Vicksburg, MS; thirty-five grandchildren, sixty-one great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
