Yvette A. Najmulski

Yvette was born July 26, 1926 in a farmhouse in Sainte Rose du Lac, Manitoba, Canada to Pierre and Marie Louise Beasse (nee Lecot). Yvette graduated from University of Manitoba in 1947 with her teaching credentials. She taught at the Verdun School in Ste. Rose du Lac, the Champlain School in Winnipeg, the Ochre River School, Manitoba, and finally the Riverside School in Windsor, Ontario.

Yvette moved to Los Angeles, CA in 1950 with Anthony Hewus. They married in Hollywood, and started a family. She became a Naturalized US Citizen in 1959, and raised all 6 of her children in So. California where she loved the beaches, outdoors, and temperate climate. Yvette was a devout Catholic, a member of the Madonna Guild at St. Pius X Church, and regularly attended services throughout her life. Anthony died in 1977.

After raising her family, Yvette returned to school in 1978 obtaining dual degrees in Art & Psychology while working full time at the Employment Development Office, and in 1981 accepted a Federal Govt position with the INS. Initially based in Los Angeles, her work involved setting up computer infrastructure and cabling. In 1986 she transferred to San Francisco where she created a travel/teaching position, and began crisscrossing the US, including Miami, Wash DC, New York, and Detroit, installing systems and then training Federal staff on what was then cutting-edge technology. She returned to the LA office in 1988 until her retirement in 1993. During this time Yvette had also met and married Thomas Najmulski and they spent a wonderful 12 years together until his death in 2000. Tom was the true “Love of Her Life”.

In retirement Yvette enjoyed hosting family events, volunteering at local senior centers, painting and teaching art classes, and continually traveling which included a 3-week journey to France to trace her roots. She enjoyed various cruises with family and friends to the Mexican Riviera, the Caribbean, Hawaii, Canada, and Alaska. She frequently traveled to her various children’s homes in CA., WA., AZ., NM., and OR as they moved about. Yvette lived a full life and moved readily herself as her needs changed to Whittier, San Francisco, La Habra, Apple Valley, and Sacramento, CA., finally settling in the home of her eldest daughter Michelle and her wife, Sue Bevins also of Sacramento, for nothing less than the most patient, gentle, and loving care in her final years.

Yvette is predeceased by sisters Velda McLean, Cecile Bilodeau, Adrienne (Didi) Collison, Noemi Chartrand, Gabrielle Chudrick, and brother Ernest Beasse.

She is survived by beloved sister Lucienne Mero (nee Beasse) of Windsor, Ontario, Canada; Children Gary Hewus (Cyndi; Michelle Hewus (Sue), Deb Hewus, Wayne Hewus (Lisa, Andrew), Karen Hewus (Felice), and Jon Hewus (John); Grandchildren Chris, Brandon, Aaron, Kai, Katie, Taylor, Lauren, and Jordan, numerous great-grandchildren, a multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins, and the Najmulski family children and grandchildren who Yvette loved as intentionally and completely as her own.

Sunday, Dec. 8th from 4pm-8pm an open casket viewing and memorial will be held at Del Angel Funeraria 10333 Alondra Blvd., Bellflower, CA 90706.

Monday, Dec. 9th at 10:00 am Catholic Funeral Mass @ Del Angel Funeraria, followed at 11:30 by a funeral procession to Queen of Heaven Cemetery 2161 Fullerton Rd., Rowland Heights, CA. Graveside ceremony will begin @ 12:30 pm.
