Christopher Lynn Rousey

Christopher L. Rousey passed away March 2, 2022 after a courageous battle with cancer. Chris was born November 16, 1968 to Tom and Shirley Rousey. He graduated from Jonesboro High School in Jonesboro, AR and then attended Arkansas State University (ASU), where he graduated with a teaching degree in mathematics. While at ASU, he also played rugby and made many lifelong friends on the pitch. Chris began his teaching career in Houston, TX at Westside High School. Chris spent his final 11 years of teaching in Bentonville, AR where he taught math at Washington Jr. High School, Fulbright Jr. High School, and Bentonville High School. He also coached various sports including rugby, wrestling, football, and track. Teaching was more than a job for Chris, it was his calling; and it was evident to everyone around him – his students and their parents; his colleagues; and his family and friends. His impact extended far beyond the classroom. Chris was the teacher who made it a point to connect with his students and ask them how they were really doing; he was the coworker who made work a place full of joy and laughter; and he was the friend who people went to when they needed help, with the small and big things. His kindness, optimism, and selflessness were legendary. Outside of work, Chris enjoyed airplanes, rugby, hockey, curling, traveling, camping, hiking, and spending time with family and friends. He strongly believed in giving back to his community; he and his wife enjoyed serving together, even while he battled cancer. Chris is survived by his wife, Stefanie; his children, Tyler and Lakyn; two grandsons; his parents, Tom and Shirley; his brother, Michael, and his family; his brother, Bryan, and his family; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends. His Celebration of Life will begin at 11:00am, Saturday, April 2, 2022, in Arend Arts Center on the campus of Bentonville High School.
