His childhood was spent in Denison, Fort Worth, and Irving, Texas, where he graduated from Irving High School. In the early 1970s, as a high school band student, Jim started the tradition of an annual canoe trip for band members.
He attended Stephen F. Austin University, St. Edward’s University, Colorado Mountain College, and Red Rocks Community College. He was a lifelong learner, whether it was his curiosity about current events, learning to build or repair something, or simply reading about subjects he found interesting. He loved using the internet, especially when learning how to build or repair something. Most recently, he rebuilt his bike from start to finish.
Jim was a jack of all trades. As a young man, he was a river guide on the Colorado River, taking people on rafting and canoe trips through the Grand Canyon. His happiest times were spent in the Grand Canyon throughout his life. He later worked as a drug and alcohol counselor, a CDL driver for a tour bus company and various other trucking companies, a certified plumber, and a handyman.
Jim loved the outdoors and the mountains. He enjoyed hiking, biking, and river rafting. He spent many hours on a boat with his father and learned about hiking in the mountains alongside his entire family. Most recently, Jim moved to Bentonville, Arkansas, where he loved biking the trails throughout Bentonville and Northwest Arkansas. He enjoyed visiting with the people he met on the trails and never met a stranger.
Jim was a true gentleman, especially to his mother and sisters. He was loving, kind, and thoughtful to all he met, always offering to help with repairs or needed projects. He had a hilarious sense of humor, and there was always laughter in the room when Jim was present. No one could tell a story quite like he could. He cherished his family, especially his niece, nephew, and great-nephew.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Mary Logan. He is survived by his sisters and brothers-in-law, Lu’Ann Hart (Gary) and Jean Horan (Roy); his nephew, Branden Hart (Sarah); his great-nephew, James Hart; and his niece, Hilary Horan Lex (Harry). He is also survived by many cherished cousins and friends. He will be remembered and missed by all who knew and loved him.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on June 30, 2026, at First Presbyterian Church of Bentonville. “In memory of Jim Logan,” memorials may be made to Pedal It Forward, link below.
