James was a member of the Bentonville Church of Christ, Masonic Lodge #56, National Guard, Eagle Scouts, Bentonville Little League and Minor League Baseball. He worked for the RTW over 40 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Orpha Chandler and nephew, Mark Roberts.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Lometa McNelly Sandlin, of Bentonville; two sons, James Michael Sandlin (Wanda) and Kenneth Sandlin both of Bentonville; two granddaughters, Amanda Sandlin-Cross of Centerton and Kimberly (Monte) Wilson of Bella Vista; four great-grandchildren, Ashton, Colby, Carson and Taylor; four sisters, Doris McBee of LaMar, Missouri, Earline Rankin and Rose Mason of Bentonville, and Peggy Bertschy of Hiwasse.
