James Cleveland Sorey, Jr. (aka Jim Sorey, Gramps), 93, passed from this life on Thursday, April 15, 2021.

Jim was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on August 26, 1927 to the late James and Myrtle Sorey, Sr. He graduated from Classen High School in Oklahoma City and immediately enlisted in the US Marine Corp. Jim served as WWII ended and then studied architecture at the University of Oklahoma.

Jim began his career at Benham Engineering Company in Oklahoma City until he moved his family to Northwest Arkansas in 1978. He began work in the Site Development Division of Walmart and ran the Engineering team for 13 years until his “first” retirement. A man who loved to work, Jim continued his career as Senior Resource Engineer at CEI Engineering, Bentonville, Arkansas, then a brief time at Carlson Consulting Engineers and his final retirement came in 2015 from Sand Creek Engineering in Bentonville. Jim was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and community member. The family recalls his love of sports, building things, and a love for anything with a motor. What a beautiful legacy Jim has left and each one of you is a part of it. There are so many memories of your wonderful family going back 40+ years. I am reminded of Psalm 116:15 - "Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His godly ones." My prayer is that the Holy Spirit will indeed be your Comforter as you walk this path of sorrow and know the loss of Jim in your family circle. May you feel God's presence with you.

We were privileged to know Jim, Darlene and their family while serving their church in Oklahoma City. Jim was a man of integrity, devoted to God and family. May his memory be a blessing to all who knew and loved him.

In 1990 I met Jim in the Walmart engineering department as a young environmental consultant just starting a small company here in Bentonville. Jim was very professional and welcoming - He was a very significant aspect of us having opportunities to serve throughout the United States helping Wal-Mart successfully navigate with integrity the regulatory requirements of the Clean Water Act. It was always a pleasure to work for or alongside Jim. He leaves an excellent legacy in his family who carries on his traditions.
