Victor William Scales was born on November 23, 1982, and died on June 13, 2026, at the age of 43. He moved from California with his family to Rogers, Arkansas, when he was in middle school. He graduated from Rogers High School and went on to the University of Arkansas, where he studied Political Science — a fitting choice for a man who never met an argument he didn't want to understand from every angle.
Vic shared a life with his partner of 25 years, Rachel. They resided in Bella Vista, Arkansas, with their two dogs, Wu and Sara.
Vic's mind was wired for big, abstract ideas — and he didn't just skim the surface; he worked to understand them deeply, thoroughly, and on his own terms. His love of politics and his dedication to reading (especially non-fiction) reflected a sharp, conscientious intellect and a deep respect for getting things right. He also loved old-school professional wrestling, was a lifelong and unapologetic mac and cheese enthusiast, and spent his free time weightlifting. He contained multitudes.
A Christian and deeply spiritual man, Vic carried his faith with quiet sincerity, never performative, always real. His tenderness for animals was unmistakable, expressed in the way he showed up as an incredible dog dad, and in the charitable support he generously gave, without ever seeking recognition (until now).
Vic was a man who gave of himself without keeping score. He was a devoted son, gentle and patient during the long and difficult season of his mother's illness. He was meticulous and detail-oriented while still making room for warmth and for the kind of humor that could catch you completely off guard. He had a joyful, irreverent wit that could lighten a room without ever diminishing what mattered. He listened to understand, and he had a rare ability to leave people feeling genuinely heard.
Vic is survived by his partner, Rachel Keith; his sister, Ali Lemas; brother-in-law, Mitch Lemas; and his nephew, Lucas Lemas. He was preceded in death by his mom, Jan Scales; his dad, Bill Scales; and his soul dog, Jack.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be sent to Vic's favorite charity, 4 the Love of K9s. Donations can be sent directly to the organization (4 the Love of K9s) or via Venmo @rescue4thelove.
