Barbara Lee Miller, 92, passed away peacefully at her home in Oklahoma City on June 20, 2019. Barbara was born on April 26, 1927, in Kansas City, Missouri. She was the twelfth child of George and Dixie Chrisman. After the untimely death of her mother, she was adopted by Jack and Alice Bessie, of Topeka, Kansas. Barbara graduated from Topeka High School in 1945, and then attended Washburn University, where she was a member of Alpha Phi Sorority. While attending Washburn, Barbara met Brett Miller. They were married on Thanksgiving Day, November 25, 1948, and were married for 41 years, until Brett’s death in 1990. Over the years, Barbara worked at Southwestern Bell, John A. Brown’s, and Dillard’s. She was also a homemaker and mother to her two children. Barbara enjoyed painting, sewing, horseback riding, singing in the choir, dancing, traveling, reading and volunteering. During her life, Barbara volunteered with the Red Cross, Contact Suicide Prevention, and the Metropolitan Library. She also founded a Widows Grief Support Group, and was a member of Our Lord’s Community Church. After 80 years, Barbara was reunited with her remaining birth family, and was blessed with the opportunity to get to know her remaining siblings and their children. Lilly-Barb was a long lost loved one for most of my life, a myth and legend. When we reunited with her after 80 years, it was a dream come true for my Gramma, Evelyn, and my mom, Beverly, as well as the rest of the family. She fit in like she'd never been apart from us. We were lucky to have found her and her children and to have widened our circle of love.

I met my wonderful "new" Aunt at the 80th family reunion. I'm sure she felt underwhelmed with all these people to meet her for the first time. I got along immediately with Aunt Barbara. She was able to meet her other sisters, Evelyn Cox & Mary Long before they passed. We are so lucky to have met her & spend time with Aunt Barbara.
Love you & will miss you.
Your niece Jane Priest, daughter to her sister, Mary Long
