

Betty Sue Liles, 92, passed away Sunday, August 30, 2020. She was born December 23, 1927 in St. Louis, Missouri to Noah and Bernice Schmidt. She attended and graduated from Putnam City High School in 1946. Her parents were known for bringing home soldiers to feed and send on their way, however, a soldier by the name of Carl Liles, Jr. was never sent on his way. Betty and Carl married on her 19th birthday, December 23, 1946 and enjoyed almost 64 years together before his passing in 2010.
Betty and Carl adopted their son, Koy Keith Liles, then six years later they adopted their daughter, Jacinth “Jacy” Harms. As a family they did a lot of traveling and saw lots of sights. They mostly just enjoyed spending time together.
Betty was a woman of many talents and varied interests. She played the accordion, painted beautiful pictures, and was a wood carver. She was also an incredible seamstress and cook. She had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to make people laugh. Betty also loved collecting rocks and gems and was lovingly called “Rock Hound”.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Carl Liles, Jr.
She is survived by her son, Koy Liles; daughter, Jacy Harms; and grandson, Alexander Harms.
Visitation will be 4pm-8pm Thursday at Bill Merritt Funeral Service.
Graveside services will be 10:30am Saturday at Spring Creek Memorial Cemetery.
