Carolyn Jane Hinson, 84, passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of her family. Born July 3, 1941 with a gentle spirit and a heart as warm as her favorite color, bright, joyful red, Carolyn lived a life filled with simple pleasures, deep relationships, and cherished memories.
Carolyn was known for her wonderful cooking, her love of Hallmark and Christmas movies, and the way she could get lost for hours in a good book or working on a jigsaw puzzle. She found joy in traveling, taking trips and cruises that became treasured stories for her family. Music was another source of happiness, especially anything by Elvis Presley. Some of her sweetest moments were spent listening to her husband sing Elvis songs just to make her smile.
For many years, Carolyn worked as a beloved lunch lady for Putnam City Public Schools, where her warmth, kindness, and soft humor brightened the days of countless students and staff. She had a special gift for making others feel welcome, and her presence in the schools became a fond memory for many who knew her there.
In her earlier years, Carolyn met her first husband, Thomas Hinson, while working at a diner: a love story that began over coffee, conversation, and the everyday magic of a warm, welcoming place. Together they had three children: Johnny, Gayla, and Brenda Hinson, who remained the great joys of her life.
Carolyn later met her second husband, Jerry Borders, in 1998. Their connection was immediate and heartfelt. They shared their first date at Bethany Park, a place that became a symbol of the life they would build together. Carolyn and Jerry were married in 2001, and their years together were filled with travel, laughter, and countless moments where Jerry would serenade her with Elvis songs that made her heart light. Their bond remained strong until his passing, and Carolyn continued to carry his memory with her.
Above all else, family was Carolyn’s greatest pride. She adored her grandchildren: Lindsay Thanscheidt, Meagan Hinson, and Dane Hinson, and she treasured the blessing of being a great-grandmother to Isaac Hinson, Corbin Hinson, Serenity Hinson, Oliver Hinson, Colton Thanscheidt, Caroline Thanscheidt, Charlie Thanscheidt, and Emmalyn Thanscheidt. Her home, her stories, and her traditions will live on through each of them.
Carolyn’s life was one of warmth, love, and kindness: qualities that illuminated the lives of everyone who knew her. She leaves behind a legacy of laughter, comfort, and unending affection. Her memory will forever be cherished, and her presence will be deeply missed.
May she rest in peace, reunited with loved ones, wrapped in the music she adored, and surrounded by the light she brought into the world.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 10am Saturday, December 6, 2025 at Bill Merritt Funeral Service.
