Donna Mae (Hedges) Hampton departed this life on December 9, 2018 to join her heavenly Father, beloved husband and other loved family members who have gone before. What a reunion that must have been. Donna loved family. She was born the oldest of three children on March 2, 1932, in Enid, Oklahoma to Harold Franklin and Zelma Mae (Peninger) Hedges. Her father was one of five children and her mother was the oldest of eleven so Donna grew up surrounded by a large family and knew early the importance of love, commitment, hard work and service. These traits became her foundation which were passed on to her own four boys.
Donna was always kept busy. She worked for many years alongside her father and husband with their accounting practice, volunteering to cook for Meals on Wheels, cooking for the Kiwanis pancake breakfast and all tasks needed during the many years of the Oklahoma State Fair 4H Cafeteria. Donna was a servant to her faith, as well as her community. She served as, a deaconess and choir member at the Putnam City Christian Church, a Boy Scout den mother, a member of the Warr Acres Kiwanis and as part of the Salvation Army Disaster Relief group of Oklahoma City. Donna, alongside her husband Jim, was on the front-line giving aid to victims during the record-breaking 2005 Atlantic hurricane season in Florida with hurricane Wilma, then in New Orleans (Katrina) and again in Texas (Rita). And when you drove down Warr Acres MacArthur Blvd and saw all of the flags lining the streets you knew that Jim and Donna had been there.
Donna loved to cook. She had her favorites but also liked to try new recipes usually changing something in the dish to make it better like corn flakes in the meatloaf and different flavoring in the Chex Mix long before it become a trend. Cookies, cakes and candy were always lining the counter in her kitchen.
Donna met the love of her life while in high school at Enid, Oklahoma. Jim and Donna were married on January 14, 1951, a marriage that would last 65 years, ending when he passed on December 9, 2016. She is survived by her sons: Bob (Debbie) Hampton, Bruce (Laura) Hampton, Steve (Ginger) Hampton, and Daughter-in-Law Dianne (Dennis) Hampton, as well as Grandchildren: Shauna (Rushell) Rucker, Brian Hampton, Adam Hampton, Emily Hampton, Chris (Rebekah) Hampton and Matthew Hampton. Also, by Great Granddaughter, Tuesdey Rucker. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Barba Greggs, sons, James Howard Hampton Jr., Dennis Hampton and great grandson Davin Rucker.
Memorials may be made to Physician’s Choice Hospice in Donna’s name.
