Emery Taylor Jones was born Nov.25, 1920 to Margie Leona DeVaughan and Euel Taylor Jones in Faxon OK. Emery grew up in Grandfield OK where he married Betty Marie Stevens on April 10, 1940 in Walters OK. He served in the US Army during WWII in The Philippine Islands, then in Japan just after the Sept. 2, 1945 surrender. When he returned from Japan in 1946, he settled in Bethany OK with his wife, Betty, and their 2 young children, Charlotte Anne and Emery DeVaughan (“Donny”). Emery lost his son, Donny, in 1950, an accidental drowning; and lost his wife, Betty, to cancer in 1998. Emery lived in Bethany until 2005 when he suffered a memory-impairing stroke, and then moved to Dallas. He died in Dallas on Dec. 3, 2011.
Emery is survived by his daughter, Charlotte Jones Weeks (with husband, Albert Parker Weeks), 2 grandchildren, Cameron Elizabeth (Weeks) Watts (with husband David F. Watts) and Stephen Taylor Weeks, plus 3 g-grandsons: David F. Watts, Jr., Taylor Allen Weeks, and Matthew Parker Watts. Emery is also survived by four nieces and three nephews (with their respective families): Earlene Armstrong Bone, Janice Jolene Jones Bryant, Brenda Lee Jones Lujan, Kathleen DeVaughan Jones Moore, Dennis Armstrong, Clifton Lloyd Jones, and Gregory Taylor Jones. Emery is also survived by his sister-in-law, an Oklahoma City native, Gail Kathleen Jones.
A graveside service is scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 6, at 11:00am in Rose Hill Burial Park, Oklahoma City.
