Floyd Pleasant “FP” Spiva, Jr., 94, passed away peacefully on November 19, 2025, in Prague, Oklahoma. He was born on November 11, 1931, in Oklahoma City to Floyd Pleasant Spiva, Sr., and Edna May (Bowles) Spiva.
FP grew up with a strong sense of discipline and dedication, graduating from Browns Military Academy of the Ozarks in Sulphur Springs, Arkansas, in 1951. Shortly after, he proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War from 1951 to 1953.
FP married the love of his life, Dorothy Alexander, on December 22, 1951. Together, they shared 68 years of marriage before her passing in 2019. Their life together was filled with adventure, hard work, and deep devotion to family.
FP settled in Oklahoma City where he raised his family and built a lifelong career as a denturist. A true craftsman, he owned and operated his own dental laboratory. His talents stretched far beyond his profession: he was a songwriter, newspaper columnist, antique dealer, artist, and a self-proclaimed jack of all trades. Whatever FP set his mind to, he pursued with passion and precision.
FP retired to Lake Texoma, where he lived out many of his “perfect days”: fishing in the quiet of early morning, spending afternoons working in his woodworking shop, and ending the day playing cards or enjoying the company of his beloved grandchildren. He was known for his impeccable work ethic, his love of art, his joy in fishing even in the snow, and his adventurous spirit, once a daring race car driver.
Above all, FP cherished his family. His legacy of creativity, determination, and kindness lives on in each of them.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dorothy Spiva; and his brothers, Vester Shultz and Vyron Shultz.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Linda Spiva of Prague; siblings, Gerald Shultz and wife Terri of Fort Worth, and Michael Spiva and wife Sue of Oklahoma City; grandchildren, Lori Long and husband Mike, and Lonnie Spiva; great-grandchildren, Austin Spiva, Ethan Long, Marshall Long, and Samantha Spiva; and great-great-grandchildren, Asher Spiva, Brielle Spiva, and Chesney Spiva.
FP will be remembered for his boundless talents, his unwavering love for his family, and the countless ways he made life richer for those fortunate enough to know him.
Visitation will be 4pm-8pm Thursday, December 4, 2025 at Bill Merritt Funeral Service.
Services will be 1pm Friday, December 5, 2025 at Bill Merritt Funeral Service. Interment will follow at Moore Cemetery.
