Freda Joan Lightsey Staats, age 92, entered into the presence of her Heavenly Father on June 4, 2026. God was her guiding light throughout her life, and her faith provided strength, comfort, and direction in all she did.
Freda was born on March 24, 1934, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to C.C. and Pearl Lightsey. She attended Oklahoma City schools and graduated from Capitol Hill High School in 1952.
She dedicated 37 years of service to Western Electric/AT&T before retiring in 1996.
Freda embraced life with enthusiasm and joy. She loved working in her yard and flowerbeds and took great pride in keeping her home immaculate, affectionately giving herself the nickname "Neat Freak." She was a talented ceramic artist who enjoyed creating pieces in her own kiln. Freda also loved dancing, working puzzles, her goldfish and koi ponds, and, in her younger years, water skiing. She believed in living life to the fullest and found happiness in both simple pleasures and treasured family moments.
Above all, Freda's greatest love was her family. She cherished her son, daughter, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and her beloved husband, Ronald K. Staats.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ronald K. Staats; her twin sister, Reba Lightsey Terry; her brother, A.D. Lightsey; and sister, Wanda Lee Lightsey.
Freda is survived by her son, Terry Holmes of Jacksonville, Florida; her daughter, Jeri Rene Currier of Newalla, Oklahoma; her grandchildren, Amber Currier of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Dustin Currier of Coweta, Oklahoma; her two great-granddaughters; and her sister, Theda Milius.
Viewing will be 4pm – 6pm Friday, June 12, 2026 at Bill Merritt Funeral Service.
A graveside service will be held at 10am Saturday, June 13, 2026 at Resthaven Memory Gardens.
