Garnet grew up on a farm in Norman, the youngest of 10 children. She graduated from Norman High School. Soon after, she met Bill Estell at a dance and they married in 1940. Together they raised 2 children. He died in 1963. She married Russell Harris in 1974 and enjoyed many years together before he died in 1989.
Garnet was known for her sense of humor and sassy personality. She had a way of lighting up a room as she walked into it, by way of her brilliant smile and sparkling eyes. Garnet had a life-long love of dance, especially ball room dancing, dancing right up until Christmas of last year. She was also known for her healthiness and credits her long life to dancing, laughing, eating well, and walking miles every day.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Stillman and Loula Marrs; husbands Bill and Russell; brothers Eunice, Rex, Grady, Cecil, Doyle and Alton Marrs; sisters Gladys Marrs, Mildred Marrs and Shirley Jaffray.
Those left to carry on her sense of humor and sassy personality are her son and daughter-in-law, Stan and Nancy Estell of Centennial, CO., her daughter and son-in-law, Jan and Roger Reynolds of Oklahoma City; grandchildren, Wes and Gena Barnhill of Oklahoma City, Jennifer and Ray Denham of Bethany, Tony and Jeanna Morris of Minco; great grandchildren, Danielle Lewis, Dakota Cooksey, Conner Barnhill, Cori Barnhill, Trevor Morris, and Jaci Morris; great-great grandchildren, Raigen and Bentley; nieces, Courtney Edwards, Mary Lou Taylor and June Aiken; great nephew, Ian Edwards; and a host of dancing friends.
Visitation will be 5p-8p Thursday, March 1, 2018 at Bill Merritt Funeral Service.
A celebration of Garnet’s life will be 11am Friday, March 2, 2018 at Bill Merritt Funeral Service with interment to follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
