Glenn Lee Thurmond Jr.
July 7, 1941 – August 28, 2019
Yukon resident, Glenn Lee Thurmond, Jr., 78, passed away Wednesday, August 28, 2019. Glenn was born July 7, 1941 in Shreveport, Louisiana to Glenn Lee Thurmond, Sr. and Viola (Sanders) Thurmond. After graduating from high school, he joined the United States Army and served with the Green Beret Special Forces. He served three tours in Vietnam, which incorporated over 500 sky dives, and was honorably discharged after 9 years of service. Glenn married the love of his life and best friend, Garnett Grindstaff, on May 16, 1972. Together they raised their children, Jennifer and Lloyd. After serving his country, he worked as an Air Traffic Controller and went on to be an ATC Instructor with the University of Oklahoma. Glenn attended the Midwest City Free Methodist Church with his family. He was a member, and very involved with, the VFW Post 382 and the Special Forces Association 32-50. His life's hobbies included...travelling, scuba diving, gardening, bird watching, building bird houses, and spending time with his family. He was a kind and loving husband, father, and Papa who will be dearly missed by all. Glenn is survived by his wife of 47 years, Garnett Thurmond; children, Jennifer Simon and husband Ron, Lloyd Thurmond, and Susan Hecht; grandchildren, Natasha Morris-Thurmond, Phoenix Thurmond, Gracie Simon and Joshua Hecht.
