OBITUARY

Grace Nancy Otto

April 8, 1934February 24, 2019

Grace Otto met and married Ernest Otto at John Brown University. They lived and raised their two children in California. Nursing was a passion for Grace, and she worked as a nurse in various doctor’s offices for 20 years. After moving to Oklahoma City, Grace worked for a local doctor of Urology assisting him start his first office. After retiring, Grace stayed quite active: volunteering for St. Luke’s Friday School; she was an active member of the Scandinavian Club of Oklahoma City, serving as its president in the early 1990’s; and being active in the Toastmaster’s Club, earning awards for her speeches and storytelling. Best of all, Grace traveled to many counties in Europe, Asia and the Holy Land. She rode a Camel in Egypt, an Elephant in Thailand, a Horse in Iceland, and held a Red Panda in China. She climbed to see the next Dalai Lama in Tibet and visited Golgotha and Jesus’ Garden Tomb in Israel. Grace participated in local travel clubs and their tours but sometimes planned her own trips with Ernie, her cherished husband. A few times she explored Europe with her son. Grace’s last trip was to Portugal. From the time she was a little girl, Grace was a committed Christian and was active in the work of Christ throughout her life; especially through children’s classes, bible clubs and puppet ministries. For many years, Grace Otto reiterated an illustration about Heaven: After church potlucks, as the main meal was cleared away, people would be told to keep their forks because “the best is yet to come--the dessert is coming.” Undoubtedly, today Grace is enjoying the “desert” of the joy and peace of being forever in the company of her LORD and so many of her beloved family and friends who went before her. Grace was preceded in death by her parents, Theodore and Marion Thorson, and her husband of 56 years, Ernest Otto. She is survived by her son, Joseph (T.J.) Otto; daughter, Alma Brown and son-in-law Ken Brown and grandson Reilly Otto. Grace will be buried at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, 8801 N.W. Expressway, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, at 2:00 p.m., February 26, 2019. A short prayer service will be held at the graveside. A memorial service remembering Grace’s life will be held 6:30 p.m., Friday, March 1, at Westlake Presbyterian Church, 2801 N Rockwell Ave, Bethany, Oklahoma. If friends desire, memorial contributions may be donated to the Otto’s alma mater, John Brown University’s Work Scholarship Fund.
