Gwendolyn Sue (Hicks) Byrd passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family at home on Sunday, May 14, 2023, exactly two years from the day that her love, Milton Byrd, also passed. The baby of three girls, she was born on October 7, 1940, to James Walter and Cloie Hicks in Oklahoma City. Gwen accepted Christ as her Savior when she was a child, holding her faith close throughout her life. Gwen Hicks, the city girl, fell in love and married her country boy sweetheart, Milton Byrd on September 23, 1960. They were married for 60 years. The other loves of her life were her children: Brenda Byrd, Rhonda (Brian) Hood, Scott (Pamela) Byrd, and Stephen (Jennifer) Byrd: grandchildren: Courtney, Rachael (Tim), Lyndsey (Taylor), Chelsey, Zachary, Dillon (Vita), Natalie (Gary), Nicholas (Ester), Chloe, Chase, Kaylee (Isiah), Gabby, and Deon; and 13 great grandchildren. Gwen loved shopping, fashion, jewelry, and all things leopard print. She always said that she never wanted to dress like an old lady. She made sure she and Milton wore color-coordinated Sunday outfits. She was also an avid reader and enjoyed watching true crime stories with her family. Her grandkids loved coming over for sleep overs, where they would swim, play games, watch movies, and bake. The grandkids especially loved her No-Bake Cookies, Lemon Cake, and Special French Toast. On the trip back home, Grandma and Papa would give the kids money to spend at Dollar General on candy. Mind you, this was always on the way to take the kids home. Throughout their time together, Gwen and Milton, loved to travel, enjoyed country life, and time with their family. Gwen, affectionately known as Mom to her kids, Grandma to her grandkids and Gigi to her great grandkids, left beautiful and lasting memories on all our hearts. She will be greatly missed by her friends and family.
