

Herbert John Kahl, long time resident of Warr Acres, Oklahoma, passed away on June 4, 2012. He was born in 1923 in Milbank, South Dakota and grew up in Burr, Nebraska. Herb was 88 years old and he will be greatly missed by his wife of 66 years, Mildred (Mickie) Kahl. When the two met, Herb was a Corporal in the Army Air Corp where he served in WWII with the 61st Supply Squadron. After his discharge from the service, Herb moved to Oklahoma and worked for the FAA and retired from Tinker Air Force Base at Oklahoma, City in 1979. An avid fisherman, Herb enjoyed trips to Branson, Mo with family and friends to do trout and bass slaying from the dock’s edge. Herb loved to bowl and spent many a night throwing horse shoes in the backyard with the family. He and his wife Mickie were long time members of Putnam City Christian Church. After retirement, Herb devoted a major part of his time as a volunteer for the Oklahoma Blood Institution. He was one of the first ones to respond to his post at the time of the Oklahoma City Bombing and also sacrificed many, many hours to help our loved ones during their time of need, after the attack on the World Trade Center in New York on 9-11-01. He received a dedication plaque for his time and devotion to this worthy cause. Herb’s legacy will live on in his family, including daughter Janet Langston and husband Don of Tuttle, Ok, son Herbert Michael Kahl and his wife Vickie of Warr Acres, Ok and son Mitchell Kahl and his wife Pam of Midlothian, Tx. Many, many loving memories of ”Grandpa Herb” will be left to cherish and comfort his 9 Grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. His work on this Earth is done, but he will be forever loved and remembered in our hearts and dreams.
