Joan was born at 105 Havelock Street in Preston, England. She was very proud of her English and Anglican heritage, and with her magnificent accent, delighted in sharing stories of her beloved years in Lancashire County. At wars end, Joan married Joe Motley while he was serving with the 8th Air Force in England. As a war bride, Joan came to America on the Queen Mary, arriving Easter Sunday, 1946. We loved her so, and will miss her laughter, fun-loving spirit, and her memorable stories.
A Bethany area resident for over 60 years, Joan was a charter member of St. David's Episcopal, later attending the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection, St. Mark's Methodist, and Council Road Baptist.
Joan was preceded in death by her husband, Joe J. Motley, in 1989. She is survived by her three children, Gary and wife Jan, Paul and wife Jana, Pam and husband Bob Kokojan, eight grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren
