John Walter Becker, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on November 12, 2025, at the age of 93 in The Woodlands, Texas. Born October 13, 1932 in Chicago, Illinois, John was the son of German immigrants Edward Becker and Barbara Baumann and graduated from Kelly High School in South Side Chicago at 17. He enlisted in the Army at 18 and retired as a Sergeant First Class (SFC E7) after two decades of service. During that time John served in the Korean and Vietnam Wars; completed tours in Japan, Italy, and Germany; and spent a significant amount of time stationed at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma. In 1964, John married the love of his life, Maxine, in Ft. Smith, Arkansas. Their marriage lasted 51 years, and together they traveled the world, visiting over 40 countries. John showed kindness and love through his actions and by sharing the products of his passions of cooking, painting, and woodworking with his family. He and Maxine often hosted large family gatherings for the holidays, where they presented everyone with delicious food and homemade gifts they created together. John also enjoyed playing computer games like Solitaire, discussing politics, and cheering for his beloved Chicago Cubs. Not only was he committed to his wife, family, and country—he was dedicated to his community. After retiring from the military, John transitioned into a career as a Warehouse Manager for the Oklahoma City Housing and Urban Development, where he worked another twenty years. He donated monthly to several charities including Boys and Girls Club, ASPCA, St. Jude’s, Make a Wish, and The American Cancer Society. John was an active member of the OKC Senior Friends for over 20 years and participated in Army Military Reunion Groups and Veteran Associations where he forged lasting bonds with fellow veterans. John is preceded in death by his wife Maxine; his children James Borror, Robert Thomas, Jo Anne Young, and Harry Synder; and his grandson Kobe Borror. He is survived by his children Donna Synder, David Borror, Michael Borror, and 15 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren who will carry forward his memory and values. In honor of John’s commitment to supporting those in need, the family requests that donations be made to Disabled Veterans organizations in lieu of flowers.
