

Oklahoma City resident, John William Ervin, 88, died on Tuesday, August 29, 2017 surrounded by his family.He was born in Hartshorne, Oklahoma to Dallas and Angelina (Carletti) Ervin.When John was a child, they moved to California. During the summer, he would come back to Oklahoma where he would play baseball with his cousins. He saved up enough money from his paper route to start college at St. Mary’s College of California. After a year, he came back to Oklahoma and began attending Oklahoma A & M. While there, he joined the Phi Kappa Theta Fraternity and met Carol, the woman that would eventually become his wife, at a dance hour date.After college, he was drafted into the US Navy and served during the Korean War When he returned home from the war he attended a Coronado Club dinner. It turned out to be at Carol’s house, and they rekindled their romance.They were soon married and together made a home where they would raise their 5 daughters.He was a business man who owned and operated City Office Supply for many years.John was a devoted man of faith who loved his family, baseball, and OSU.He coached all of his daughters in various sports including softball and basketball.He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 42 years, Carol Louise Ervin; and his wife of 12 years, DeeDee Spooner-Ervin.John is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Leslie and James Sexson, Laurie and Dennis Southard, Rebecca and Kiran Phansalkar, Angela and John Gomez, and Lisa and Kevin O’Nan; grandchildren, Kara Cooper, Cory Sexson, Erin Sexson, Gabrielle White, JT Southard, Alyssa Phansalkar, Roman Phansalkar, Jordan Gomez, Jazmine Gomez, Dexter O’Nan and Stella O’Nan; great grandchildren, Reese, Kallie, and Eli Cooper, Evelyn Sexson-Plant, Gage Southard, and Grant White; and dear friend, Bertie Brown.
