John Louis Knipp, 76, passed away August 17th, 2023 at his home in Warr Acres. He was born July 10th, 1947 in Alliance, OH to Jesse Dennis Knipp and Mary Jane Heim-Knipp. “Big John” as he was known by many, was an active, long time resident of Warr Acres. John served in the United States Marines from 1965 to 1967, earning the rank of Corporal, serving in Vietnam, while assigned to 1st Battalion 9th Marines, “The Walking Dead.” John received numerous awards and honors, to include The Vietnam Service Medal with One Star, The Vietnam Campaign Medal, and The Purple Heart. John married the love of his life, Sharon Kay Deatherage, on April 19th, 1968. To this union, they were blessed with two children, one daughter, Laura Kaye, and one son, Matthew Allen. John worked and retired from the City of Oklahoma City as an ASE Master Mechanic. He served the city of Warr Acres as Ward 3 Councilman and Vice Mayor. He was also a devoted member of Seminole Pointe Church of Christ and the DAV. John was preceded in death by his mother Mary Jane Heim-Knipp, his father Jesse Dennis Knipp, his sister Mary Ann Knipp, and his brother Keith Allen Knipp. John is survived by his wife Sharon Knipp, daughter Laura and husband Lewis Keeling, son Matthew Knipp and Terri Swymeler, and grandchildren, Amanda and husband Drew Rowell, Meghan and husband Darrel Herbert, Trenton Keeling, Emily and husband Sky Shannon, Spencer Keeling, Kimberly Kane, Danielle and husband Dalton Barron, Elke Kane, and Zoey Knipp, and great grandchildren, Alexander, Olivia, Kaden, Colten, Johnathen, Jasen, Logan, Teagan, Scarlett, Daniel, Elizabeth, Joselyn, Wyatt, Elliana, Evelynn, and Charlee. He is also survived by his sister Susan Hood and brother Wayne Knipp, as well as many other relatives and friends.
