After graduating high school, John moved to Oklahoma City, where he built a new life and found a place to call home. He worked as an a system analysis at the OU Health and Science Center, where he met the love of his life, Shelly Cook. Together, they shared 22 wonderful years filled with love, laughter, family, and travel.
John faced many challenges earlier in life, and he took great pride in the personal growth and transformation he achieved after moving to Oklahoma. A dedicated member of 12 step recovery program for 21 years, he not only maintained his own sobriety but also mentored and supported many others on their journeys, always encouraging them to become the best versions of themselves.
In his free time, John found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He loved camping and fishing, tending to his vegetable garden, and caring for his immaculate lawn — which once earned a Best Yard award in his neighborhood. Most of all, John cherished time spent with his family, especially his granddaughter, who brought him endless joy.
John will be remembered for his strength, sense of humor, and generous heart. He was a devoted husband, a loving father and grandfather, a loyal friend, and an inspiration to many. He will be deeply missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur Hale Webb, Sr. and Lillian Eloise Oskerson, and his brother, Arthur Hale Webb, Jr.
John is survived by his beloved wife, Shelly Cook; his daughter and son-in-law, Dia and Allen Bertwell; grandchildren, Nadia Stanart, Gavin Roberts, and Hunter Pritchard; sisters, Elizabeth Faye Rogers and Theresa Nadine Hunter and husband Rodney; brother, Leonard Webb; and several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of John’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at Bill Merritt Funeral Service.
