Born December 10, 1944 in Caldwell, West Virginia and raised in northwest Oklahoma, Kenneth Wayne Kinney joined his Lord and Savior on September 15, 2026. A proud veteran, Wayne was honorably discharged from the U. S. Coast Guard in November 1968 before embarking on a career in heavy equipment. It was during this time he met his second wife Carolyn. They were married for more than 30 years. Wayne loved gospel and country music and he and Carolyn routinely could be found dancing at the American Legion, in the aisles of the grocery store, or in the driveway—wherever there was music.
Wayne took great pride in his family. At every celebration, gathering, or family dinner he took pictures. He enjoyed so much looking at them, reliving the memories, and sharing with everyone he met. After retirement, he and Carolyn purchased a motor home and traveled the U. S. before settling in Edmond. He was the ultimate caregiver, devoted full time to the care of Carolyn during her long battle with Alzheimer’s. He was kind, always a voice of positivity and encouragement. He was a loving father, husband, and brother—an all-around good and faithful man.
He was preceded in death by his wife Carolyn Slaton Campbell Kinney, parents Kenneth Wayne Kinney, Sr. and Elwanda Burns Kinney, brothers James Madison Kinney and John Wade Kinney, and nephew Shane Wade Kinney. He is survived by his daughter Anita Kinney Winn-Szilagyi and her husband Don; son Justin Kinney and his wife Yoselyn; stepson Chris Campbell and his wife Gini; sister Janie Kinney O’Brien and her husband Mike; grandchildren Branden Winn, Madison Winn, Nathan Winn, Zachary Winn, Chrysta Kinney, Emily Kinney, Lyndsie Kinney, Corbin Campbell and his wife Kaleigh, and Yadiel Mejia; great-grandchildren Harrison Campbell and Porter Campbell; nephews Travis Kinney and his wife Raquel and Kenneth Martin Gerst and his wife Vanessa; niece Kelley Hall; great niece Emma Kinney; great nephews Aiden Gerst and his wife Olivia and Ethan Gerst; multiple cousins; and his pup Gracie.
A devout Christian, the family finds peace in knowing Wayne is healed and at Home. In lieu of flowers, donations in his name can be made to American Legion Post 12, 6101 N. W. 50th Street, Warr Acres, OK 73122.
A Celebration of Wayne's Life will be 2pm Friday, September 25, 2026 at Bill Merritt Funeral Service.
