Our much loved Mom and Grandma, Leona Jane Marlar, age 97, went to be with her Heavenly Father on Tuesday, May 14, 2024. She was born September 28, 1926 in Jefferson County, Colorado to Nathan Paul and Emma Josephine (Hewes) Dillon. Leona was raised and graduated from high school in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She met Forrest Marlar at the USO Center and they married in August of 1946. They then moved to Oklahoma City where they made their forever home and raised their 5 children. Leona loved her children and was so proud of them and all of their accomplishments. She was an avid genealogist and worked as a librarian for Putnam Heights Elementary. She enjoyed travelling, Audie Murphy movies, history, books, and her beloved pets. Leona attended The Cathedral of our Lady of Perpetual Help for over 70 years. She then attended Epiphany of the Lord Catholic Church with her daughter. Leona was one of a kind with her feisty nature, her silly personality, and her sense of humor. She proudly passed all of these and more on to her children and grandchildren. Leona was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Forrest Marlar (2003); and 3 siblings.
She is survived by her children, Linda Sue Kunka and husband Ray, Nora Kay Fitzpatrick, Michael Charles Marlar, Janine Marie McConville and husband Tom, and Peggy Denise Marlar; 5 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; as well as a host of other family.
Viewing will be 5pm-8pm Monday, May 20, 2024 at Bill Merritt Funeral Service.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30am Tuesday, May 21, 2024 at Epiphany of the Lord Catholic Church with interment to follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
