He was born in Columbus Junction, Iowa to Arthur Christopher and Delta May (Lewis) Cadogan, March 9, 1919. Lew was a devoted husband to Ruth (Hough) Cadogan. Lew and Ruth had the privilege of celebrating 73 years of marriage this July 6th. They have two daughters, Jonel C. Levy (husband Scott) of OKC and Jana C. Roberts (husband Wayne) of Whiteville, NC. Their extended family includes 7 grandchildren and their spouses, 3 step grandchildren and spouses, 10 great-grandchildren and 11 step great-grandchildren. His surviving siblings are Lee Cadogan and Louise Wise, both of Davenport, Iowa.
Lew served four years in the Army Air Corps during WWII. He earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Iowa State University in 1950. He worked for Swan (Carrier) Air Conditioning and Black, Sivalls and Bryson. His career culminated in 25 years at FAA Aeronautical Center, OKC working on the heating and air conditioning systems and designing other mechanical projects. His many outside interests included church activities, Bible study, reading, golf, bowling, fishing, and tinkering in his workshop. He invented and sold an important medical device used in delicate ear surgeries performed by Dr. Jack Hough, his brother-in-law, and other surgeons all over the world.
Lew enjoyed westerns (TV, movies, books) and anything pertaining to science. He was quite competitive and loved playing table games, chess, dominos and cards. He was a Mason and a member of the FAA Flying Club where he worked to earn his private pilot’s license and flew small planes. He loved to travel to visit family and friends and made two big trips to Europe and to the Holy Lands. Lew was a charter member and leader in Covenant Community Church as well as Village and Lakeside Methodist churches. He has served as a deacon, trustee and elder as well as helping to coordinate building projects. Lew called the Norman Veterans Center home for the last 7 years. He was the “pet” on his wing there and was always known for his smile and for always being a gentleman. Even when he no longer knew anyone else, he always knew “his” Ruthie and loved her visits.
