was the husband of Mary (Bartlett) Briggs; they happily shared 52 years of marriage together.
Born on May 26, 1944 in Concordia, Kansas, he was the son of Kenneth and Viola (Somers)
Briggs. Following Ken’s career in the United States Marine Corps, the family ultimately settled in
Columbus, Ohio, where Mike was a 1962 graduate of Eastmoor High School. He later followed
in his father’s footsteps, serving in the United States Marine Corps from 1966 to 1968, reaching
the rank of Corporal. Upon his discharge, he settled in Oklahoma City, where his parents had
relocated. He was a valued employee at Phil-Good Products, Inc. from 1971 to 2015, where he
worked as a plastics engineer who was equally adept at operating the machinery on which his
designs were built.
Mike found his greatest joy in supporting his children’s activities; during their high school years,
he was a proud member of the Putnam City Pirates Booster Club, and served one year as the
President of Oklahoma State’s Tri-Delta Dad’s Club. He also loved animals great and small-from
the livestock he cared for working on his Uncle Hap Somers’ Kansas farm during the first few
years after his high school graduation- to the family pets, Scooter and Lady. He enjoyed bringing
joy to everyone, as his ability to tell jokes and bring an entire room from silence to roaring
laughter was unparalleled. Ultimately he will be remembered as a problem-solver: both at work
and at home, Mike always set the right tone to get a job done or to use his insight to make any
situation better than he found it.
He is survived by his wife Mary of the home; daughter Amy of Irving, Texas; son Bryon of Tulsa;
brother C. Wayne Briggs (Cynthia) of Hilliard, Ohio; brother in law Robert Bartlett Jr. of Phoenix,
Arizona; sisters in law Karen Bartlett of Oklahoma City; Judy (Lyall) Moore of Arkansas City,
Kansas, and Susan (Greg) DeLong of Vinita, Oklahoma. In addition, he is survived by many
nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will always hold a special place for him in their
hearts. He was preceded in death by his parents; son Bradley; in laws Robert Sr. and Voneita
Bartlett; brother in law James Bartlett Sr., and sister in law Ona Bartlett.
