For over 52 years, Myra loved her husband, Sam. They were inseparable partners in building a life, home, family, and companies, always side by side. Even as she entered eternity, Sam remained at her bedside.
She adored her only Son and Daughter-In-Law, Rep. Brian and Melissa Hill. Her love for them was matched only by her affection for her Grandchildren, Eleanor Grace and Samuel Josiah, whom she cherished with all she was. From Baseball and Basketball to Band and School, she delighted in hearing about “Ele & Josiah’s” adventures and loved them more than life.
Myra deeply loved her extended family, including her parents, Rev. LeRoy and Maxine Thornton; her sister, Sherry Arnold; her brothers, Ron and Kevin Thornton; and their spouses, as well as her many nephews, nieces, and great-nieces and nephews. “Aunt Myra” cared greatly for each of them. She was the glue that held her family together, including those who lovingly called her “Momma Myra” and “Grandma Myra.”
A Minister, Entrepreneur, Teacher, Seamstress, Singer, Songwriter, and unwavering cheerleader for her Grandchildren, Myra lived with purpose and perseverance. She opened her first company in her 30’s, earned her college degree in her 40’s, and survived an aneurysm, stroke, and multiple brain surgeries in her 50’s. Her motto: never quit.
She was relentless in the face of uncommon obstacles—a devoted wife, her family’s biggest fan, and a true example of Jesus, faithful in prayer and in the Word. She lived bold and fought relentlessly through many medical challenges.
After a multitude of major surgeries, life-threatening illnesses, and her final 13 days in the hospital following years of enduring pain, she is now whole.
Myra never quit. Small yet mighty, she fought the good fight and finished her race. Her inheritance is a home with Jesus, her Savior and Lord—her crown secured.
Though she will be missed daily, her legacy of faith, hope, and love has laid a foundation for generations to come. To a beloved Wife, Momma, MawMaw, Friend, Servant, and so much more: well done, good and faithful servant. Onward & Grateful.
A Celebration of Myra's life will be 10:30am Saturday, May 2, 2026 at Discovery Church in Yukon. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
